Snibston celebrates its 21st birthday in 2013.
As Snibston
comes of age, we are working hard to offer you great value experiences. With your continued support,
we have exciting plans for the future which include preserving and revealing more about Leicestershire's
nationally-important heritage and enabling you to get more involved with this unique and special place.
Three unifying development schemes
are proposed which have emerged from public consultation and build on the strengths and assets of the
site.
Mining
Lives is to be the first development scheme and is about skills
development and improving the conservation, access and interpretation of the nationally-important coal
mining heritage associated with Leicestershire and beyond. This exciting £5.7m scheme secured
a round one pass from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in May 2009. With a completed round two application,
this means Leicestershire County Council is eligible to apply to the HLF for £4.2million towards project
costs - this represents 71% of the total project costs. The other costs will come from a combination
of conditional grants, capital receipts and in-kind match-funding including volunteer time. Click on
the boxes below to find out more about what Mining Lives will involve.Meanwhile, the Arts Council-funded
Transform project is current underway and is just one way we are changing and
improving Snibston. The historic site and its collections are the creative inspiration for artists producing
works that offer new ways of exploring Leicestershire's past.
