Special Educational Needs (SEN) - Assessment Service
The Special Educational Needs Assessment Service provides the following services for parents and children in Leicestershire in partnership with other services within the Children & Young People's Service:
- The identification and statutory assessment of those children with special educational needs of a kind and degree which require the LEA to determine the educational provision to be made for them.
- Review and amendment of Statements of Special Educational Needs.
- The admission of students with Statements of Special Education Needs to special schools, units and nurseries.
- The provision of advice and information to parents, schools and other agencies in relation to the statutory requirements and LEA procedures relating to the SEN & Disability Act 2001 and Education Act 1996.
- Representing the LEA in statutory appeal procedures state SEN & Disability tribunal and mediation.
- The allocation of resources for children with Statements of Special Educational Needs in mainstream schools.
- The allocation of individual equipment and aids for pupils with Statements of special educational needs.
