School food back at Leicestershire County Council

As from 6 May 2008, the provision of school meals reverted back to Leicestershire County Council, under the management of SFSS - with some exciting changes and a delicious new set of menus!

So what's changed?

Over the last couple of years, we have conducted discussion groups and tasting sessions to find out what really matters when it comes to school food, allowing us to provide the children of Leicestershire with a healthy, balanced variety of food options.
All new menus will be developed offering food sourced from local suppliers where possible, meaning we're giving the children fresh produce daily, as well as supporting our local businesses and economy. Each dish has been tested by children, staff and council representatives, so we know they're tasty, plus they've been nutritionally analysed by a dietician to ensure they meet government standards - so they're healthy too!
All of our staff undertake rigorous training to ensure they can produce the new meals to the required standard, and with kitchen revamps to improve preparation areas, catering systems and equipment, we're all good to go!
