Independent standards advisers sought
Independent people are being sought to advise on complaints against county councillors.
Leicestershire County Council wants to recruit three people to advise on standards.
Their views must be sought before the council's Member Conduct Panel takes a final decision on any case.
Applicants should have:
• A working knowledge of local government or the political process
• A strong commitment to high standards and ethics
• The ability to analyse complex situations and understand legal requirements
• The ability to take a fair and objective viewpoint and arrive at balanced judgements
• The ability to communicate effectively and operate in co-operation with others

The appointments will be for a fixed term of four years. Travel and subsistence allowances will be payable.

The closing date for applications is August 22nd.
Background
The council cannot appoint anyone who has been a member or officer of the authority during the last five years, or who is a relative or close friend of such persons. In addition, the council is not prepared to appoint anyone who is actively engaged in local party political activity.
