Historial hijinks at Donington le Heath Manor House
Donington le Heath Manor House is offering budding historians the opportunity to do battle with dragons, walk the plank and even be buried as an Anglo-Saxon this summer!
Why not brighten up your summer with a trip to Donington le Heath for activities with a historical twist.
- The Anglo-Saxon and the Vikings land on 26th July 2-4pm. Come and explore the Dark Ages with real artefacts, Viking games, craft activities and dressing up.
- The Dark Ages continue at Donington on 29th July from 11am-4pm. See the hero Beowulf fighting monsters and experience being buried as an Anglo-Saxon!
- Are you a brave knight ready to do battle with a fiery dragon, a beautiful princess in need of saving - or a fiery dragon looking for a fight? If so then join the fun at the Manor House! Knights, Castles and Fairytales is on 2nd August2-4pm, including a fancy dress competition.
- Ever wanted to meet the Tudors? Well on August 9th August 2-4pm you can! Have fun with the Tudors in a house that was a family home throughout the Tudor period! There are costumes, crafts, games and more.
- Sharpen your cutlass, don your eye patch, shiver your timbers and climb aboard for some pirate fun! Pirates Ahoy! comes to Donington le Heath. So for sea songs, a fancy dress competition, treasure hunt and an epic pirate battle come along on August 16th 11am-1pm and 2-4pm
If you don’t fancy donning Tudor costumes or pirate attire yourself but would like to join in the fun, then a performance at the Open Air Theatre at Donington le Heath Manor House might appeal.
The Lord Chamberlain’s Men present ‘Macbeth’ in the lovely Donington gardens on Friday 27th July at 7.30pm (open for picnics from 6pm). Please bring your own chairs. Tickets are available at the Manor House and on the gate. Adult £14.50, child £8.50, family (2+ 2) £38.00.
On Friday 10th August The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde will be performed by the Chapterhouse Theatre Company at 7.30pm (open for picnics from 6pm). Please bring your own chairs. Tickets available at the Manor House and on the gate: Adult £13.50, students and children £9, family (2 + 2) £40.00.
