Midland Mainline news will boost economy

Electrifying the Midland Main Line will boost Leicestershire’s economy, the county council’s acting leader said today.
Nick Rushton spoke out after the Government announced today a £500 million investment to electrify the Sheffield-London St Pancras route through Harborough, Leicester, Loughborough and East Midlands Parkway – stations which serve the core of the county.
Nick Rushton said: I’m delighted that the Government has decided to electrify the Midland Main Line, following our long-running campaign.
It will mean cleaner, faster, more reliable trains, linking Market Harborough, Leicester, Loughborough and East Midlands Parkway to the capital.
It will boost the county economy - not just through jobs involved in the rail upgrade, but also through improved business links and rising house values, due to the swifter connection to London.”
