New exhibition tells Loughborough's sporting tales

Sebastian Coe and Paula Radcliffe are just two of the famous faces featured in a brand new collection celebrating Loughborough's sporting heritage.

Leicestershire County Council's latest exhibition shines a light on local heroes and the town's role in the sport industry.

Launched last weekend at Charnwood Museum, 'Our Sporting Life in Loughborough' brings together objects, stories, photography and video and has been created by experts from the council and Loughborough University.

It charts the important contributions made by the university in the field of sports science, and highlights some of the technological advancements and performance research developed there.

Alongside the high-tech sports kit, there is a selection of historic sporting clothing and equipment from the council's museum collections.

David Sprason, Leicestershire County Council's cabinet member for adults and communities, said: "The exhibition is a great way to celebrate the summer of sport.

"It showcases the Loughborough sportsmen and women who have gone on to achieve worldwide success, and also features the up and coming stars who are looking to make their mark at the London 2012 Games.

"Loughborough University makes a large contribution to the sporting world and I'm pleased the display marks its pioneering research and innovation which continues to push technological boundaries."
