Step up to the Walk to Work Week challenge
People are being encouraged to step up to the challenge and walk to work if they can this week.
Leicestershire County Council is urging people to boost their bodies and minds by swapping the car for a pair of walking boots or trainers.
Walk to Work Week falls between May 14 and 18 and will also see the council launch its new South of Leicester Strolls on your doorstep” leaflet with a walk at Grove Park in Enderby on Thursday.
Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said: Commuting by walking is great for those who live near to their places of work.
Even where this may not seem practical, we can all walk more in our daily lives: by getting off the bus earlier, parking further away, using stairs instead of the lift or taking a stroll during the lunch break.”
May is National Walking Month and as part of this people are encouraged to take part in the Great British Walking Challenge and log their miles.
