Syston cycle improvements completed
Work has been completed to create a new cycle route between Syston’s Hobby Horse estate and Wreake Valley Community College.
The new on-road and off-road cycle facilities also link Syston with the Watermead Connect2 project that has boosted access for walkers and cyclists between Cossington, Birstall, Thurmaston and Leicester.
As part of the scheme, a speed table and advisory 20mph zone have also been introduced at the High Street and School Street junction.
They will help reduce vehicle speeds on the High Street and make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross.
The £67,000 scheme has been delivered and funded by Leicestershire County Council in partnership with Sustrans.
Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: We are pleased to have carried out this work which we hope will encourage more people to walk and cycle, especially pupils attending Wreake Valley Community College and St Peter and St Paul’s Primary.
Not only that, but with links to Watermead and beyond, it will help improve access for walkers and cyclists travelling to nearby villages, as well as to Leicester.”
