Special school plans unveiled

Parents and residents can find out more about plans for a new special school in Charnwood at a drop-in session.
Leicestershire County Council is holding an open evening next Tuesday (1st May) to enable people look at plans for the building which will be located at Thorpe Hill Campus.
The state-of-the-art £9.3 million area special school will provide a new home for Ashmount School and offer places for 125 children and young people aged between four and 19.
The school will include a hydrotherapy pool, a sensory and therapy suite, physio room and conference and training room.
People will also have the chance to speak to representatives from the council, Ashmount School, the architects and contractors and ask any questions.
Phil Ward, Leicestershire County Council's interim assistant director for targeted services, said: "I'm pleased plans are making progress and I'd urge anyone who wants to find out more to go along to the drop-in session.
"Area special schools provide a real opportunity for local schools to work together to develop a fully-inclusive environment which will be of tremendous benefit to pupils of all ages and abilities on the Thorpe Hill campus.”
The open evening is being held in the Main Hall at Burleigh Community College, Thorpe Hill, LE11 4SQ, on Tuesday, 1st May between 6pm and 7.30pm.

Work is set to start this autumn and the school is due to open in autumn 2014.
This will be the fourth area special school to be developed in Leicestershire and has been funded by the County Council.
