Communities plant trees in honour of the Queen

Nearly 50 communities across Leicestershire will each plant a tree in honour of the Queen.
The County Council-based Stepping Stones Project has organised the scheme in a bid to mark the Diamond Jubilee and help make the county leafier.
Over the next six months 48 commemorative trees will be planted in the project area.
Ruth Camamile, Chairman of the Stepping Stones Project, said: “We are delighted to be able to not only mark the Queen’s 60 years as monarch but also help Leicestershire become that little bit greener.
“Trees not only provide fantastic benefit for both people and wildlife, but they can help in the fight against climate change by soaking up carbon.
“We hope these trees will be focal points in the communities where they are planted for many years to come.”
Since January the Stepping Stones Project has planted more than 2,000 trees in the county as part of the Woodland in my Backyard (WIMBY) scheme it runs in partnership with the Woodland Trust.
