School place offers sent out
New figures reveal that 90 per cent of children have places at their first choice
primary, infant or junior school.
A total of 95.7 per cent have been offered
one of their top three choices and are being notified by Leicestershire County Council from today.
Just
over 6,500 parents applied for primary school places by 15th January.
A record-breaking
79 per cent applied online – an increase of 17 per cent compared to last year. Using the internet to
apply is not only convenient but saves the council money on stationery and postage costs.
Ivan
Ould, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for the children and young people's service, said:
"I am delighted that just under 6,000 parents have been able to secure their first choice school
place for their child.
"This is the first year we've incorporated academies
into the process and I’m pleased that we've developed positive working relationships, which we hope
will continue."
Parents who applied online will be able to view their
decision online by logging on with their username and password at: www.leics.gov.uk/admissions
Others will receive letters from today (April 16th) advising them of the school
place they have secured for their child.
Notes
The
admissions process adheres to central government rules and gives parents the right to have an appeal
heard by an independent panel.
