Misleading and invalid motor insurance sold online

Leicestershire County Council’s Trading Standards Service is warning young drivers to check that they are insured after receiving a spate of complaints about an ‘on-line’ motor insurance company.
The company, Aston Midshires Insurance, based in Enderby, has been selling car insurance via its website, aimed particularly at young high risk drivers.
Some of these drivers, who have been stopped by police officers throughout the UK, found they had bought insurance which was worthless and provided no protection. Furthermore they have been risking prosecution as it is against the law to drive whilst uninsured.
Drivers who have bought their car insurance from Aston Midshires Insurance are advised not to drive until they have legal insurance cover.
Advice about how to purchase motor insurance can be obtained through www.direct.gov.uk
If you are not sure whether your car is insured, you can carry out a free check through www.askmid.com
David Bull, Head of Leicestershire County Council’s Trading Standards Service, said: ”Trading Standards has worked with Leicestershire Police to stop  consumers being conned into buying invalid and illegal motor vehicle insurance from this business.
If you have purchased your insurance from Aston Midshires do not drive your car until you have valid insurance.”
Consumers who require further advice should contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 if they believe they may have purchased invalid insurance from Aston Midshires.
