Donington Folk Club kicks off at Classics Tea RoomThe first meeting of the newly formed Donington Folk Club will be held on Friday, October 9th.
Folk music lovers can meet at 7.30pm in the fully licensed Classics Tea Room at Donington le Heath Manor House.
The special guest to mark the occasion will be the acclaimed singer and musician Catrin O’Neill, who will perform a set of her Welsh, Irish and English traditional folk from airs to rough drinking songs, along with original material in both Welsh and English.
Catrin O'Neill was surrounded by traditional Welsh music and culture growing up in Aberdyfi in Snowdonia, and has spent the past few years song writing, learning new instruments and rediscovering her undying passion for Welsh and Celtic folk music.
As it’s the first meeting of the club there will be a discussion about how the group will be run. There will also be an open invite to local singers and musicians to join in with a sing around and jamming session.
If you’re not keen on performing yourself, but still enjoy the music, then pop along and soak in the atmosphere with a drink.
For this first meeting there will be charge of £5 (with concessions for floor singers and musicians) to get a kitty going.
Classics Tea Room is inside a stone barn dating from at least the 17th century in the grounds of Leicestershire County Council’s Historic Donington le Heath Manor House, so it makes a great venue for folk performance.
Classics Tea Room is open from 11am – 4pm every day serving light meals and refreshments.
To book a place, or for more information, please ring the Classics Tea Room on 01530 817214.
Donington le Heath Manor House is on the South West edge of Coalville, near Hugglescote.
