Cycle Lanes and Routes

Cycle routes are provided to make cycling safer and encourage more journeys to be made by bike. Routes can consist of cycle lanes on the road, or off-road tracks (which may be shared with pedestrians).

In some cases traffic calming features are introduced so that motor vehicles and cycles travel at similar speeds and can therefore share road space in greater safety.

Through routes - for example between towns, villages and major destinations - are generally signed.
