Short Breaks for Children with Disabilities
Wherever possible, we support families in their aim to keep a disabled child at home, by providing home-based support.
In some situations families need increased support to enable them to live everyday lives so short breaks can be provided through extended day care services, or the fostering Short Breaks scheme. In more complex cases this can be provided through residential services. Foster care and residential services are also sometimes available.
To be eligible for support and a service by the Disabled Children's Social Work Service, an assessment of need under The Children Act 1989, needs to be completed and this service is only one option for future support.
