The Hunting Collection

The symbol of Leicestershire County Council, and Leicester City Football Club, is the fox. Leicestershire is considered to be the birthplace of foxhunting as it is known today and Melton Mowbray and surrounding areas have long-running associations with foxhunting.
In 2005 Leicestershire County Council's Heritage Services were awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund to commence the "Foxhunting: Past, Present, Future?" project. The project ran for one year from October 2005 with the aim to record the impact of the Hunting Ban (2004) from all points of view and discover and compliment other foxhunting collections and resources.
Building upon the displays at Melton Carnegie Museum, information from this project has created an oral history archive, educational resources, highlights of relevant collections and Foxhunting website.
