The Jitty

The Jitty is a website by young people for young people, that provides information and advice, entertainment and sports news, fun and games and user forums and feedback. The Jitty is supported by Leicestershire County Council, Connexions, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, The Odeon and the Charlotte.

Things To Do

Cinema listing : Search for local films
What's On : Events around the County and City
Libraries : Whatever your interests: help with homework, reading, music, hobbies, the internet, learning or keeping up with the news.
Museums : Find out about Romans, machines and motors, dinosaurs, science and the natural world all made possible by exhibitions, tours, classes, theatrical productions, activity days and more.

Find Your Talent

Find Your Talent - Leicester and Leicestershire have been chosen to run one of 10 pathfinder projects as part of a national £25million Government programme called 'Find Your Talent'. The aim is to involve Leicester and Leicestershire’s 250,000 children and young people in five hours of cultural activities per week - from film-making to museums. This will be achieved by recruiting a team of Young Ambassadors who will work to devise and deliver cultural activities across the City and the County.

Voice of Youth

Youth Council : CYCLe the "County Youth Council for Leicestershire" is an active group of enthusiastic young people from all around Leicestershire.
Citizens' Panel :  'Leicestershire's Voice' is a group of residents who are broadly representative of the population of Leicestershire who feed back their views on Council Services. The Council encourages and supports young people to join it's Citizens' Panel.
Youth Service : Provides a range of opportunities that help young people across the county.
Shire Grant - Youth Grants : SHIRE Voluntary Youth Organisation Grants are available to help with premises running costs or for buying equipment for groups and clubs.

Your Council

There are 55 ‘electoral divisions’ in Leicestershire. Each one has a County Councillor who represents the people in that division and is voted in by them. County Council elections take place every four years the next one is in May 2009. People over 18 yrs are able to vote, provided they are on the electoral roll.
County Councillors attend the meeting of the County Council, about every two months, at County Hall, to discuss and decide on a range of matters to do with the Council and its policies. They also take up issues relating to their area.
The Councillors are members of political parties. Generally, the party with the most Councillors forms the Cabinet, which makes the majority of policy and service decisions on behalf of the County Council.
