The Council's political structure is based on a Leader and Cabinet Model.
Meetings of the County Council are held approximately every six weeks.  There are three discrete areas which the County Council oversees, namely:-
Executive Area
Overview and Health Scrutiny Area
Regulatory Area

Partnership Bodies
The Scrutiny and Overview Area covers:-
Scrutiny Commission
Children and Young People's Services Scrutiny Committee
Adult Social Care and Health Services Scrutiny Committee

Time Limited Review Panels
Standing Panel on Budget and Performance
Health Scrutiny
The Regulatory Area covers regulatory bodies consisting of:-
Constitution Committee
Development Control and Regulatory Board
Corporate Governance Committee
Employment Committee
Pension Fund Management Board
Standards Committee
Other Regulatory Business Pool
