Traffic surveys in and around the town were carried out in 2003 and in the early part of 2004. Using the survey information, a computer traffic model of the main road network has been prepared. Consultations have taken place with various groups in Melton Mowbray, including the Borough Council, Access Groups, the Chamber of Trade and others.
The main issues identified are: Congestion on the main roads into and around the town, bus services should be improved, pedestrian access to the town centre can be difficult, cycling and parking are also concerns in the town.

To provide the layout and operation of the traffic signal at the junction and to improve controlled facilities for pedestrians and cyclists across each arm of the junction. A public exhibition of the proposals was held at the Braunstone and District Working Mens Club, Narborough Road on the 16th February 2005.
The exhibition was very well attended. We estimate that 200 people may have passed through the doors.

Results: The traffic signal improvements have now been actioned.
A52 Proposed 7.5 Tonnes Gross Weight Restriction (Except For Loading), Various Roads, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire And Nottinghamshire
It was proposed to introduce a 7.5 tonnes gross weight restriction.. The scheme will prohibit heavy goods vehicles (either loaded or unloaded) from using roads through Bottesford and Normanton as a through route to and from the A1/A52 and to the Normanton Airfield Industrial Estate.
A public exhibition was held at the Fuller Room, Old Primary School, Grantham Road, Bottesford on 1st February 2005. The exhibition was very well attended, with approximately 150 people attending.

Primary Care Trusts (NHS) and Social Services Departments in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland have to make changes to the way that respite services are provided in the future. We heard your views on the proposals we have developed.

Consultations are performed to find out the users satisfaction of the service provided by the Councils' Registration Service on a yearly basis. This consultation took the form of a questionnaire, which visitors to the Registrar's offices across the County were asked to complete.

We are moving towards the integration of all children’s services in line with the requirements of the Children Act 2004. The views of the children and young people, which we serve, are central to this work. This consultation involved questionnaires, and has helped to inform the way in which services are delivered.

Your views were sought on the content and presentation of the Council's Summary of Accounts. The statement provides information on how much it costs to run the Council's services, how this money is spent and the where the funding comes from. Previous consultations have told us that people want to be kept informed and consulted about how Council services are going to be run and how their money is going to be raised and spent. We would therefore welcome your views on the usefulness of the financial information we publish.

A key aim of the Government Planning reforms is for greater public and stakeholder involvement in the planning process. As a result the County Council is preparing a Statement of Community Involvement which will set out how local communities and all stakeholders will be involved from the outset and throughout the preparation of the Minerals and Waste Development Framework and during the determination of planning applications.
The County Council consulted on the first phase of this process. The consultation period ran from the 20th June for 6 Weeks Until the 1st August 2005. Your chance to have your say on the future of health and social care services as part of a Government consultation to find out what people want from community-based health and social care services in their day to day lives. This includes services such as your local doctors, pharmacist, NHS Direct, health visitors and other community nursing services, physiotherapy services, community mental health services and direct payments. Information gathered through this consultation informed the development of a Government White Paper, expected by January 2006, that set out improvements to how these services are provided in the future.

It is intended to hold a Citizens’ Jury (following on from the Rural, Young Persons and Disability Juries held between 2001 and 2004) for people from black and minority ethnic (BME) communities.

Who got involved: The Jury recruitment process has yet to be defined but it is likely to involve up to 16 individuals.
Results: Results from all the Juries were used to help to make changes and shape services.
For several years now there has been much local concern over the speed and volume of traffic in the village. The situation is exacerbated by commuter traffic where drivers use the village roads to avoid congestion on other more major routes.
To enable residents to express their opinions a public exhibition was held at the Village Hall, Rearsby Road on Wednesday 30th November 2005 between 3.30pm and 7.30pm. .

Public Consultation was officially launched on Friday 18th November 2005 for a proposed new £9m park and ride service. Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council encouraged people to have their say on plans for a new park and ride service from near Fosse Park and Junction 21 of the M1.

Local Transport Plans (LTPs) set out plans for traffic and transport. We have produced a new provisional LTP for the years 2006-2011. The provisional LTP shows in detail how we will invest over the coming years to meet our transport objectives. We have also produced an environmental report, which shows the impact of our proposals.
