Visitor Health and Safety

We hope that your visit to County Hall will be enjoyable and informative.
We ask that all visitors to the site comply with the following information, which is intended to ensure your health and safety and our security whilst on County Hall premises.

On Arrival

  • When entering our site, you will be given an ID Badge on which the word Visitor and your name will be displayed.  You are asked to wear this badge in a visible position whilst on our premises.  Upon leaving the site, please return the badge to Reception.  This confirms safe exit.
  • On arrival please submit your vehicle registration number with Reception.  Only park in designated spaces.  If you have a need to park in undesignated spots e.g. to have easy access to tools, then get approval from Reception or your host.  The overall speed limit on site is 20 mph and must be adhered to at all times.

Information provided by your Host

  • Your host or supervisor will advise you of the emergency procedure in case of a fire and other information regarding risks to health and safety, as applicable.A continuous sounding siren indicates an emergency and you must leave the building by the nearest available exit as quickly and as calmly as possible.  Remain with your host or follow LCC employees to their assembly point and await instructions.  Do not return for documents or personal possessions or re-enter the premises until instructed to do so.
  • Please note and comply with any specific safety requirements that are displayed or verbally communicated by your host.
  • Smoking is prohibited on the premises. To protect employees and service users, smoking is not permitted inside any County Council buildings or vehicles.  Where designated smoking areas are made available, they are usually in designated external areas.
  • All visitors must be accompanied or supervised by a member of staff at all times whilst on our premises.
  • If you are authorised by your host to work unsupervised in any area of the County Hall site you will be given a security door pass key card programmed for that area.  Return the key card with your ID at the end of your visit or at the end of each day, if you are here for an extended period.

  • You must not enter any area or touch any machinery, or equipment, unless authorised by your host. Only LCC staff are allowed to use the site’s equipment.  If you need the use of equipment, your host will arrange for a member of staff to work with you on this.

General Information

  • Under no circumstances allow anyone into the building with your door pass, they could be unauthorised and you are not in a position to judge.  If anyone has authority to enter a building they will have their own pass key card.  If they do not they should not be trying to get in.
  • Please wear any necessary Personal Protective Equipment that is provided whilst in specific areas of the site.  If you feel that you require any PPE or safety equipment of any kind please ask and it will be provided, unless it is felt that you or your company should supply this as standard procedure.

  • Photographs must not be taken unless authorised by your host.
If in any doubt about any of the above procedures, please ask your host.
