Data Protection
Leicestershire County Council depends on information to carry out its duties and
provide services to its citizens and customers. A lot of this information is personal – information
about you.
The Data Protection Act 1998 sets the legal framework for how we collect, handle
and process personal data, and gives you the right to find out what information we hold about you, to
check they are correct and to require us to amend them if necessary. The Council is committed to handling
your personal information in line with the 8 data protection principles.
How to make a request for your information
If you want to know whether we hold any information about you please fill and send
in the following Subject Access request form accompanied with proof of identity
to;

Alternatively you can send us a letter including:
- Your full name
- Your full address
- The date
- A detailed explanation of what information you require
- Any other information you think would be useful in identifying you (for example: if you used to work for LCC and are requesting personnel files, it may be useful to let us know when you worked for us and how long for)
- Original evidence to confirm your identity (this will need to be provided in person or by post if your request is by e-mail) e.g. Driving licence or passport.
What are your rights?
Upon receipt of your request the Council will provide a response within 40 calendar
days.
You have the right to
- be told whether we are processing personal data about you
- see the information which we hold about you subject to some exemptions
- prevent processing which will cause you damage or distress
- prevent processing for marketing purposes
- require amendment or correction of information which is wrong
