Race Equality Scheme

Under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, public bodies, including the County Council are required, in carrying out their functions, to have due regard to the need:
a) to eliminate unlawful racial discrimination; and
b) to promote equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of different racial groups.
A number of public bodies, including the County Council, are subject to specific duties in addition to the general duty.  The specific duties require the County Council to publish a Race Equality Scheme and to report on progress annually.
Regulations made under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 and guidance issued by the Commission for Racial Equality set out the required contents of Race Equality Schemes.  The Race Equality Scheme is now part of the Equality and Diversity Strategy and can be found at the following link.
Under the Race Equality Scheme the Council will also publish a range of information relating to employment and services.
