Understanding Crime in Urban and Rural Areas

Previous research suggests that rural areas are likely to experience lower levels of recorded crime when compared with urban areas. More detailed analysis at a local level has been hampered by the lack of clear definitions of what constitute urban and rural areas. The Understanding Crime in Urban and Rural Areas report uses a clear and definitive classification of urban and rural areas and applies it to Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland. This classification facilitates a comparison of recorded offences and perceptions of crime between rural and urban areas.
