District Level Summaries of the Ward Level Index of Multiple Deprivation
Employment deprived are defined as people who want to work but are unable to do so through unemployment, sickness or disability, indicating forced exclusion from the world of work.
Income deprived are defined as people who are on a low income, measured using various overlapping counts of people in families in receipt of tested benefits.
Each measure of deprivation is allocated a rank and score. The rank shows how the district compares to others in the country and the scores indicate the distances between each rank position. A rank of 1 indicates the most deprived district and a rank of 354 the least deprived.
Average of Ward Scores are the, population weighted, average of the combined scores for the wards in a district.
Average of Ward Ranks are the, population weighted, average of the combined ranks for wards in the districts.
Extent is the proportion of a district’s population living in the wards which rank within the most deprived 10% of the wards in the country.
Local concentration is, the population weighted, average of the ranks of a district’s most deprived wards that contain exactly 10% of the district’s population.
