Indices of Deprivation 2000

The Indices of Deprivation 2000, produced by the Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR), are measures of deprivation for every ward in England. They combine 33 indicators, which cover six domains (income, employment, health & disability, education, skills & training, housing and geographical access to services), into a single deprivation ward score which is then ranked (rank of 1 indicates the most deprived and 8414 the least deprived). There is also a supplementary child poverty ward level index, which is a subset of the Income Domain.
The Index is based on the broadest range of data possible and uses the administrative boundaries as at 1st April 1998.
