General Information |
Respite CareWhat is it?In some circumstances, we may be able to offer respite care services in order to support carers to continue their caring role. Respite care is a short break away providing ‘time off’ for yourself and your carer. Respite can take place in a variety of settings including your own home. It might be for a few hours a day at a day centre; or for a few days, a weekend or a couple of weeks in a residential home or with a family approved through our Adult Placement Service. A sitting service at home can also sometimes be arranged, depending on your circumstances. If you care for an adult, you may also be interested in the Take A Break scheme or the Carers Support Scheme. How do I get help?Initially you will need to speak to a Duty Officer who will to discuss your circumstances with you. Social Care Services has a criteria for services it provides. They may offer you advice and information or, if required, arrange an assessment of your needs at home. You can arrange for a family member, carer or friend to be present when we visit. We will talk to you about what difficulties you have with every day tasks and how best we may be able to help you. Cost ImplicationsWe do have a charging policy for home care and residential care services. How much you will pay will depend on what benefits, savings, or income you have. See Financial Assessments and Charges for Social Care for more information. Who to contact?Your local Social Care office. You will need to ask for the Adult Access Duty Officer. |
