Adult Social Care Services currently provide approximately 15000 items of equipment a year to older and disabled people. Most equipment is provided by the British Red Cross on behalf of Adult Social Services. They will deliver, set up and collect the equipment when no longer required. The equipment is provided free of charge on a loan basis. Some people also use Direct Payments to purchase equipment themselves.
Many people choose to make their own arrangements to get the equipment they need. The Disabled Living Foundation website has a large amount of information and advice about equipment and related disability issues. The Leicestershire CareOnline website has recommendations from older and disabled people about equipment supplies they have used. The Disabled Living Centre provides impartial information, advice and practical demonstrations of equipment to people in their own homes or at the centre itself in Leicester.
