Disabled Facilities Grants

What works can be carried out ?

You have a right to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant for certain works (called eligible works) if there is a registered or registerable disabled person living in your home.
Eligible works can be summarised as works necessary and appropriate for the disabled person, for example
  • to be able to get into the home
  • to have access to living, sleeping and bathroom facilities
  • to have access to food preparation, cooking, power and light facilities
  • to make the home safe for the disabled person
  • to improve the heating system
  • to access parts of the home where the disabled person cares
  • for another person who is in need of such care.
The Council will only offer mandatory grants for the above works if the scheme is reasonable and practical.
A Council may also offer discretionary grants for other works. You need to contact your local council for more information on this
