Supported Accommodation for Older People in LeicestershireOver the last 10 years the number of people living in care homes has been steadily declining, as more older people prefer to live at home with some support. Supported accommodation providing Extra Care means that people have their own flat or bungalow, but also have access to high levels of personal care, meals, domestic support, leisure and recreation, nursing and 24-hour security.
We currently have five extra care schemes offering 166 tenancies. They are:
On the 15 December 2009, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet agreed to a period of formal consultation in respect of the County Council’s ten elderly person’s residential homes and the Silverdale Hostel site in Melton Mowbray. The consultation includes the proposal of a stand-alone procurement of extra care and specialist dementia care in Melton Mowbray.
Cabinet also approved the Leicestershire Extra Care Housing Strategy, 2010-2015. The development of Extra Care housing is an essential component of the Council’s Adult Social Care Strategic Plan. In the medium to long term, more Extra Care provision is needed in Leicestershire, and this will only be possible if the Council takes forward a clear strategic approach with its partners.
Consultation Period - The County Council are asking for written comments from individuals or organisations across Leicestershire who may be interested in or affected by these proposals - 25th January to 19th April.
