Disabled Facilities Grants

Introduction

Disabled Facilities Grants were introduced in 1989 and are provided in Leicestershire by the local Borough or District Councils (called local councils from now on). They provide financial help for disabled people who need an adaptation to their home.
Examples of works the grant might cover:
  • a stairlift
  • a ramped access into their home
  • replacing a bath with a shower
Social Care Services have responsibility for assessing peoples needs and arranging community care services. If Social Care Services assess a disabled person as needing major adaptations to their home in order to allow them live as independently as possible, they will recommend that an application should be made for a Disabled Facilities Grant.
