Adult Mental Health Day ServicesMoving towards making day services better:There has been a review of adult mental health day services in Leicestershire. Consultation with service users and carers during this review has helped us to shape how the new service will look.
Representatives from the Voluntary Sector, the Peoples Forum, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, Leicestershire County and Rutland Primary Care Trust, and Leicestershire County Council have been working together to make the new plan happen. Everything is agreed by the Implementation Group, which includes representatives from all organisations involved.
The new services will support people by providing individual support based on person centred plans, improving access to community resources and increasing community opportunities, whilst still providing access to “safe places”. The new services will be provided by making changes to the Community Resource Service and by closer working with the voluntary and independent sector.
The Community Resource Service across the County became the Inclusion Support Service in April 2008. Inclusion Support Workers will support people to do more things in their own communities. There are two teams, one for the West and one for the East of Leicestershire.
There is now an Inclusion Development Worker, whose role is to work in partnership with mainstream organisations and community resources to ensure that they are user-friendly and welcoming towards people who have mental health problems.
Services provided by the Voluntary SectorThe voluntary and independent sector will provide Social Drop In and Befriending services across the county.
Social Drop Ins provide people with a “safe” place to go where there will be peer support. Staff will provide information and signpost people to other services. Befriending services support people to access their community, and to gain confidence and skills.
There is a competition process going on at the moment for the provision of these services. The voluntary sector and independent providers have been invited to tender for services. This process started in april 2008 and will be completed by October 2008.
The Inclusion Support Services will help provide social drop ins and befriending services until the new providers are ready to set these up themselves.
We will continue to keep people informed by regular newsletters and through this website.
