Urgent Help Now – Mental Health Issues


What is it?

If you or someone you care about is suffering from mental health issues and is in a crisis or emergency situation the following organisations can help.

How do I get this service?

GP – times vary
If possible, your first course of action should be to contact your local GP who knows your medical history and will work with you to decide on the best action to take.
NHS Direct – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Call 0845 4647 and a trained adviser will talk through what’s going on with you and help you to decide on the best action to take.
Urgent Care Centre – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Alternatively, or for out of hours service, go to Leicester Royal Infirmary’s Urgent Care Centre and explain your difficulty: Leicester Royal Infirmary, Infirmary Square, Leicester, LE1 5WW.  The Urgent Care Centre is located close to the emergency department (ED).  When facing the ED, the children's emergency department is to your left.  The Urgent Care Centre entrance isto the left of the children's ED, down the slope.  You will find the entry door in a corner near a flower bed.  It is signposted both from the ED and from Infirmary Square.

Focusline
Focusline - Includes a telephone helpline service which offers confidential support, information and emotional support to the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland areas. This service is available to any adult who has a mental health problem, carers and professional agencies, Helpline number: 0800 027 2127 (Free) Available daily 5pm - 1am
Accident and Emergency – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
In a real emergency or life threatening situation go to Leicester Royal Infirmary’s Accident and Emergency Department: Leicester Royal Infirmary, Infirmary Square, Leicester, LE1 5WW
999 – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
In a real emergency or life threatening situation, where you are unable to get to hospital, call 999 for immediate help the Ambulance, Fire or Police services.
Adult Social Care – outside of office hours
In an emergency out of normal office hours (outside of 8.30am – 5.00pm Monday to Thursday or 8.30am – 4.30pm on Fridays or Bank Holidays) contact the Emergency Duty Team on 0116 255 1606.  
Adult Social Care – inside normal office hours
Samaritans Telephone Service – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Call 08457 90 90 90 to speak to the Samaritans who provide confidential non-judgemental emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide.
Samaritans Branch – 9.30am – 9.30pm
