NEWSLETTER EDITOR (VACANCY)
The Association Newsletter is published quarterly and the one you are reading is fairly typical in layout and content.
We need a person to take over from Julia when the time comes and, as this is a very important job, we are ‘advertising’ in good time. Could this be an opening for YOU? Essentially, you will have good word-processing and desk-top publishing skills. Ideally, you will have had responsibility for producing community, school or departmental newsletters and will feel confident with handling attachments and designing layouts.
A group of committee members already helps Julia with proof-reading the newsletter and nearly all articles are sent to her as attachments which are print-ready. There will be members of the Committee who would be willing to offer their support.
We envisage the job will include the following:
  1. Deciding and publicising deadline dates for articles and inserts.
  2. Ensuring all regular inclusions are up to date e.g. insurance; venue.
  3. Reading all articles, checking spelling and clarity.
  4. Apart from news and reports, including some lighter materials e.g. quiz.
  5. Determining with relevant officers and County Hall contact, the timeline for completion, printing and distribution of the Newsletter
  6. Encouraging all members to contribute to the Association Newsletter.

COULD YOU TAKE ON THIS ROLE AND, IN THE PROCESS, BECOME A NEW COMMITTEE MEMBER?
THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS REQUEST FOR HELP.  THERE IS NO ONE ON THE EXISTING COMMITTEE WHO HAS THE SKILLS TO CARRY OUT THIS WORK WHEN JULIA RESIGNS FROM THE POST.
IF WE DO NOT HAVE A NEWSLETTER, THEN WE DO NOT HAVE AN ASSOCIATION AS WE HAVE NO WAY TO CONVEY DETAILS OF TRIPS, WALKS, DANCING ETC.

WANTED – WEB-SITE REVIEWER

The Retirement Association’s web-site is now established and has been updated recently.  We now need one of our members to take responsibility for its content.  Could YOU be that person?
You do not need any experience of building web-sites; that work has already been done.  All you would need to do is look at the web-site once or twice a month and identify what is current, what needs amending and what needs adding.  Members of the Committee already supply the content.
Ideally, we would like you to become a Committee Member as well, (so you know what future activities we are planning), but that would be your personal choice.
The job is made much easier because we are lucky to have access to Jane Brennan, our County Council representative, who deals with all the technical aspects.  The Web-site Reviewer would simply ring or e-mail Jane, point out any deletions, amendments or additions and ask her to alter the site accordingly.   An example of this might be a request for the removal of details of a walk or a trip which has already taken place.  This is not an onerous task.  We have over 1000 members.  Please, if you feel that this is something that you could do to help the Association, contact Sylvia Cole on 0116 2352873 or Harry Gordon on 01530 243489.
