Heaps of advice on composting

Heaps of advice is available to people who want to find out more about composting.
This week (May 6 – 12) is Compost Awareness Week and Leicestershire Waste Partnership, which is made up of the county, district and borough councils, will be holding a series of road shows so people can find out more.
The theme this year is “give back to the earth” and green fingered experts will be on hand to teach people how to do just that and make use of compost at home.
Road shows offering free information will be held on:
  • Monday, May 7 from 11am to 3pm at Snibston Discovery Museum’s Composting Corner
  • Tuesday, May 8 from 9am – 1pm at Melton Market
  • Wednesday, May 9 from 9am – 1pm at Blaby Precinct
  • Thursday , May 10 from 9am – 1pm at Waitrose, Oadby
  • Friday, May 11 from 9am – 1pm at Shepshed Market
  • Friday, May 11 from 9am – 2pm at Market Harborough Indoor Market
  • Sunday, May 13 from 10am – 4pm at Burbage Common Open Day
Guy Jackson, Chairman of Leicestershire Waste Partnership, said: “Anyone who would like to find out a bit more about composting is welcome to come along to one of our roadshows.
“Composting is a great way to not only recycle your garden waste, but also ‘give back to the earth’ by feeding your plants and vegetables.”
The Leicestershire Waste Partnership  is currently offering a number of home compost bins  at a reduced rate - compost bins cost £9 for a 220 litre bin and £10.50 for a 330 litre one.  For more information visit: www.lesswaste.org.uk/composting
