First phase of Melton town centre scheme completed
The first phase of a £150,000 scheme to revamp Melton Town Centre is due to be completed this week.
So far, the foundations for the main town square have been laid and the area has been made more open.
Work on the second phase, which will include covering the square with a premium asphalt surface and replacing the surrounding footway with York Stone, is due to take place at the end of March.
The scheme has been funded by Leicestershire County Council, Melton Borough Council and the Melton Town Estate to make the centre of the town more open and vibrant.
Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: This is an exciting scheme and work has progressed rapidly.
We are now awaiting the delivery of some specialist paving blocks and in order to ensure that we coordinate their arrival with the laying of the final surfacing of the market place, we will be closing down the work for about a fortnight.
This will allow us to deliver the final phase, at the end of March, with minimum inconvenience.”
