28th March 2013: The DCLG have today issued a second period of statutory consultation on the new Local Government Pension Scheme which will come into effect from 1st April 2014 and will cover draft regulations on membership. 21st December 2012: The DCLG have today issued statutory consultation on the draft Regulations. We have produced a short leaflet covering the main issues, which you can download here:

31st May 2012: The Local Government Association (LGA) and trade unions have today announced the outcome of their negotiations on new LGPS proposals (for England and Wales) to take effect from 1st April 2014.

30th January 2012: Following the acceptance by government of a principles document submitted by the Local Government Association, UNISON and GMB on how to take forward the reform of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) in England and Wales, a project has been set up to reach agreement on the elements of the new scheme together with the management and governance of the scheme going forward.

The Local Government Employers organisation has issued a Question & Answers document which attempts to answer some of the questions which have been raised about the agreement reached between the employers, trades unions and the government in December 2011 on reform of the Local Government Pension Scheme. 28th October 2011: DCLG have issued a consultation paper on proposed changes to the LGPS. The Local Government Pension Committee (LGPC) has prepared two leaflets on the proposed changes. One is a short leaflet explaining that, whilst changes to the LGPS are being proposed, nothing has been decided yet. The second is a longer leaflet explaining the proposed changes in more detail, whilst reiterating that these are proposals at this stage and that the scheme is still a valuable part of employees' remuneration package.
