Mining Couture

Saturday 14th January – Sunday 11th March 2012 at Snibston
From January, Claire Barber and Steve Swindells from Huddersfield University, will be revealing new works from their commission Mining Couture.

These new works have been developed as a result of their explorations into the connections between the mining heritage of Snibston and the extensive Fashion collection that is held at Snibston.

The Blind Fiddler

Saturday 14th January – Sunday 11th March 2012 at SnibstonPlaying card
Paul Conneally, transform's Cultural Forager, discovered that The Blind Fiddler was painted in the kitchen of Coleorton Hall Farm in 1806 - the same farm that the great poet William Wordsworth lived in with his familly. The picture was commissioned by Sir George Beaumont and given by him to the nation and now forms part of the TATE collection.
The Blind Fiddler Home Entertainmnet 1806-2012 Exhibition will feature artefacts held by Leicestershire County Council's Museums Service, new works by Conneally, other artists and local communities where the picture was originally painted.

Join us for a performance of a future lifetime!
Tops hats, corsets, clockwork and brass – something very strange is happening at Snibston.
The museum has closed, the country park is deserted, but in the colliery mighty machines are beginning to clank and rumble. Is this the past? Is this the future?
In 2100 the oil has run out and renewable energies have failed, the fate of the world lies with cogs, steam and clockwork. At Snibston there are cracklings in the ether as a band of hardy adventurers prepare to bring coal to the surface again. Coal that will power a different kind of future; a steampunk future...
Join this unique performance event and promenade the site as the past becomes the key to a very different kind of future.
