Jo Dacombe
Snibston Myth Maps Project
Jo is a Leicester-based visual artist who produces
work in
many mediums, and is particularly interested in making maps. She regularly works with Nottingham Contemporary
on education programmes, has a long-running project in Corby and was commissioned to prepare work as
part of the emergent Cultural Quarter in Leicester.
With the assistance of
family groups from the surrounding
communities, Jo set up three walks which explore the site of Snibston and the routes to and around
it. She recorded responses, ideas, imaginative stories, memories and histories from the walks and
created maps which mix fact, fiction, emotion and imagination.
Jo's work
was displayed in the
form of three movable light boxes which held the illustrative maps from the walks.
