Visit to Coleorton Hall Photos

Transform commission with Paul Conneally has identified the richness of local cultural links to key Romantics figures William Wordsworth, John Constable, David Wilkie and the then owner of Coleorton Hall, the self-made artist George Beaumont. Late in January 2011 Principal Curator Carolyn Abel, Lead Artist Maurice Maguire, and Arts Ambassador Chris Mear all went on a research visit to see the hall and its grounds including the Cenotaph memorial to Sir Joshua Reynolds, the poems of Wordsworth carved in stone in shrines and the remaining elements of the Winter Gardens that he designed while staying in the area in 1806-08 as a guest of the Beaumont family.
