The Transport, Engineering and Extractive Industries Galleries showcase key items from Leicestershire’s museum collections reflecting the story of the major industries and innovations of the region.This includes the prototype jet engine designed by Sir Frank Whittle, medieval mining tools and clothing found nearby at Coleorton, and an impressive collection of working steam engines.

The largest Fashion Gallery outside London, examining questions such as why we buy and wear clothes, the impact fashions have on body shapes and what our clothes are made from this is the largest fashion display outside London. Featuring clothing by fashion designers John Galliano for Dior, Alexander McQueen, Ossie Clarke, Mary Quant, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood and Zandra Rhodes, most of the fashion collection has been donated by Leicestershire’s residents.

A regular programme of exhibitions are hosted in the Temporary Exhibition Galleries - the Fashion Gallery’s Changing Room, the Community Gallery and the Mezzanine Galleries.Recent free exhibitions have included the Natural History Museum’s ‘Wildlife Photographer of the Year’ exhibition and ‘Anne Frank and You’ created by the Anne Frank Trust.
