Libraries Public Consultation on Opening Hours
From 11 April to 24 June 2011 there was a public consultation on the proposed savings relating to opening hours for libraries.
We have put together some Additional Information and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to help you to understand more about the budget situation and the reasons behind the consultation.
Following the period of consultation, the opening hours of 22 libraries were altered from the original proposals. A final schedule was considered by Leicestershire County Council's Cabinet on 26th July 2011 and approved.

Who did we consult?
Everyone who has an interest in libraries in Leicestershire, for reading, obtaining information and for learning.

How did we find out your views?
We tried to reach as many of you as possible by using a variety of methods of consultation. The survey was available in hardcopy in all libraries as well as on our website. We also contacted stakeholders such as community groups and schools.

We wanted to ensure that the consultation was carried out in a variety of different formats to suit as many of you as possible.
Will staff be made redundant?
We will do all we can to avoid compulsory redundancies. However, because of the scale of savings required over four years we cannot guarantee that no one will be made redundant or have their hours reduced.

Staff will also be consulted and we aim to implement changes from April 2012.
How the information be used
The information collected will be used as part of the decision-making process on possible savings. It is expected to include both facts and opinions.

All the information collected will be processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Information relating to the consultation that is not sensitive or personal may be retained indefinitely. It will be used to inform future decisions and may be kept as an historical record.
