Reminiscence Sessions

Reminiscence through objects from the Museum Collections
Reminiscence can be a powerful aid to working with groups of older people and those who are suffering from dementia.
Objects and images from the recent past can be used to trigger memories and encourage people to share and value their own experiences. This often results in people becoming engaged with other members of the group, with carers and with the museum staff. It also allows carers to understand the life experiences of those members of the community who they now look after.
The museum is able to offer focused Reminiscence sessions to a wide audience across Leicestershire. Sessions can be held in our Museums or in care centres or community spaces in your area.

“Everyone enjoyed it – people with dementia, carers, volunteers and staff, reminiscing is just what the Dr ordered”

Objects and artworks can also be loaned from the Open Museum for Reminiscence work. For examples of how Open Museum resources have been used, go to Wellbeing Projects.
