April 4th. Mr Garth at the Jolly Farmers. Drew an enormous extent of heath blank: practically nearly the whole forest, keeping away from Bagshot Park to please the Duke of Connaught who was out. Found at last in one of the coverts by Easthampstead Church, ran a field or two, & the old man lost his fox most skilfully, then we left. Rode Sanctity

April 6th. Mr Garth at Brick Bridge. Found a brace in the “big wood”, got awat with the wrong one, & by dint of halloas got about to Long’s Gorse & lost before we got there. Drew a lot of coverts, Billingbear etc. blank. Found again at I believe, Bill Hill. Hunted with a bad scent towards the Forest, & I left them going on but away from home so far as I was concerned. Rode Peregrine

April 10th. Mr Garth at Brickett’s Green. Had a long draw Bisham way. Found at last by Hall Place, ran to Ashly Hill, & thro’ it, got a brace on foot, hounds divided & I found myself with 7 couple, & helped the 1st whip to get them back by wh. time “Charles” had lost his fox. Found again in Bowsey Hill, ran to ground by the same farmhouse as last time. Drew Bowsey Hill again & I left them at 8pm drawing Ashly do. Rode Sanctity

| April 13th. Capt. Cotton at Allen’s Farm. Had a long draw for the outlying Queen’s hind, found at last near S---ley Hall. Ran in shape of S to Allen’s place, thence over the Van de Weyer prairies, a ring very fast round Foliejon Park just missing Ch—ly Gorse & to the farm near New Lodge where the hind ran in. 46 minutes & really good fun. By way of a hack had a drag some 8 ½ miles ending at Allen’s again. Very pleasant fooling as a wind up. |
