Diary page 28 January 1891
Jany. 28th 1891.  The Belvoir at “The House”.  Hounds had been out Monday & Tuesday, under difficulties as the frost wasn’t quite out of the ground.  B-----ings covert blank.  Found in Melton Spinney, crossed the brook, then back again & ran --- fast for Waltham, leaving it a mile on the left & back --- Stonesby Ashes.  Found again in Newman’s Gorse, ran by Stonesby Ashes, round to Stonesby Gorse, got somehow to Freeby Wood.  Went away with one of three foxes, the same round & were run out of scent by Stonesby Gorse.  Wretched scent. (Quite forgot our 1st fox from Brentingby Spinney, dodged about, ----- lost by B---bridges covert!!

Jany. 30th.  The Quorn at Egerton  Lodge.  An outgoing fox jumped up on Mr. Copley’s ground as we went to Gartree Hill.  Got on ---- & ran down to the Wreake, crossing it between Kirby & Eye Kettleby & lost above Asfordby.  Found again in Ashby Pasture, got somehow to Cream Gorse & back by Thorpe Trustles pretty well to Gartree Hill.  ----- there some time, then away by Dalby Hall plantations to Somerby, turned back and killed in the Punchbowl.  An immense field and wild riding.

Jany. 31st. The Cottesmore at Stapleford.  Found in the Cottage plantation, ran round the park, coming away by the Bede Houses, on by Wyfordby to Brentingby Spinnies where it might have been a fresh fox, then by Walthm Ashes nearly to Waltham, back to.  200 ---- of Melton Spinney, left it on the left, Scalford Bog on the left & lost at the Bullamore.  Bad scent, bright sun & occasional shower.  Left them at Goadby returning to their own country.
