![]() Thirteen reasons Why By Jay asher
|
Comment from Reader: What is it about?: This book is based around two characters, Clay and Hannah. Clay finds a package containing cassette tapes recorded by Hannah - his first love and classmate who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah explains that there are 13 reasons why she killed herself. Clay is one of them. If he listens he'll find out why. Why did you like it?: This book didn't make me cry but in a way i'm glad it didn't. It gripped me however in a way not many other books have. Some books make me look deep into myself, this did not. However in a strange way it had me hooked. I started reading it late on friday night and had finished it an hour after I woke up on saturday. I don't usually write online reviews in books, but this one made me get up and do it. Who would you recommend it to?: I am 12 but unless the young person is quite mature I would not reccomend it to anyone under that age. The library sticker says Young Adult/15 upwards so that should give you and idea. The subject matter can be quite disturbing. Lucy (12) gave it |

I LOVE this book. If you are feeling down in the dumps or upset this book may not be for you. Whilst it does have some hilarious moments when you can't help but laugh out loud, the main plot is about a 16 year old girl who has been diagnosed with cancer. She compiles a list of all the things she wants to do before she dies. The book takes you on a journey of her completion of her lists and culminates in a fantastic ending. Who would you recommend it to? I would recommend this book to anyone who likes real life stories as it is based on a true story. I would definitely recommend this book to older teens as the material is quite graphic, it is moving, emotional and funny. It has a story line that will grip you until the end. |

Comments from readers: What did you think about the book: As a young reader who just moved to Leicester from Florida, 3 weeks ago, thinking it was just about the end of the world.. This book helped me to see and appreciate 2 very different cultures in the world. I was able to appreciate my situation better. I was also able to connect to the story. As well as better understanding Manjit, the main character, that although I'm far away from "home" right now... I have choices. I can determine what I do in the future.. and boy am I glad to say that!! :) Who would you recommend it to?: I enjoyed this book so much, I honestly think its a great read for anyone of all ages.
