Aims of the group

The group is formally known as the Leicestershire County Council Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Group.
  1. The group will actively promote the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy, and Acts of Parliament and Laws which provide equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers.
  2. The group will give support to all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers that experience oppression and discrimination in the workplace.
  3. The group will offer help and guidance to individual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers. Support for members in grievance and disciplinary matters is also offered.
  4. The group will have a contributory and consultative role on the implementation and outcome of the policies and practices of departments within the County Council as they affect service users and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers.
  5. The group will actively promote issues which affect Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers to ensure they are properly addressed within all aspects of the County Council’s work.
  6. The group will seek representation on all relevant groups/bodies concerned with policy and practice within the County Council.
  7. The group will continually evaluate the role and aims of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers group and the effectiveness of the group’s existence.

Objectives of the group

Leicestershire County Council’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Group seeks to provide support to all its members regardless of their status as an employee. We encourage each person to participate at whatever level they find appropriate to achieve the following objectives:
  1. To challenge overt and covert homophobia and heterosexism within Leicestershire County Council.
  2. To address issues raised by members and management which lead to positive changes to the County Council’s approaches to employment and service delivery.
  3. To provide a forum for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers to meet one another and support, advise and encourage one another.
  4. To actively review Leicestershire County Council’s policies, with a view to initiating change relating to service delivery.
  5. To also include recruitment, training and promotion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers.
  6. To provide opportunities for self-education and personal growth.
  7. To develop broader links with other Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender groups and agencies in order to strengthen our group and raise the profile of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender workers within Leicestershire County Council.
  8. To review Leicestershire County Council’s literature for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender visibility and appropriate language.
