Existing Residents Preferential Parking
There are currently 10 Residents Preferential Parking schemes in operation in Leicestershire with additional schemes under consideration. Schemes in Loughborough are administered by Charnwood Borough Council and those in Melton Mowbray are administered by Melton Borough Council. All other schemes are administered by Leicestershire County Council.
These schemes do not reserve places exclusively for each permit holder, but permit holders can park without restriction in any of the streets within their designated zone in the residents parking bays provided.
- Occupants with a postal address within a zone are entitled to apply for permits.
- The first permit for each postal address is only issued to residents who own a vehicle for a fee of £20 per annum.
- Where sufficient on road space is available one additional permit for each postal address may be issued to residents who own a vehicle for a fee of £20 per annum.
- Preferential Parking Permits are issued for a one year period to owner occupiers and occupiers with tenancy agreements greater than 12 months. Renewal invitations are sent to permit holders shortly before the permits expire.
- Temporary Parking Permits are issued to occupiers with short term tenancy agreements of 12 months or less. They are only valid until the end of August each year. Because the tenancy agreement is short term, no renewal invitations are sent to temporary permit holders.
- Permits for bona fide visitors are available (issued to residents only). These allow a visitor to park for 1 day only within the parking bays. (Visitor permits are available in books of 10 at a cost of £5)
- A facility for any alteration to permits such as change of vehicles is also available but a £5 charge to cover administration will be applicable on each occasion the service is provided.
- A £20 charge is made for the replacement of a lost, stolen or destroyed permit.
