Part-night street lighting

After carrying out a risk assessment we will be part-night lighting streets in residential areas in consultation with local communities. The street lights will turn off at midnight until 5.30am (+/- 15 minutes) GMT.  During British Summer Time (BST) the street lights will turn off at 1am (+/- 15mins) and turn back on at 06.30 (+/- 15mins) if it is still dark.
For further information see our Frequently Asked Questions.
Once the changes in street lighting are introduced we will be monitoring all the sites in conjunction with the emergency services and parish and town councils.  This is to ensure that the introduction of part night lighting does not have any unanticipated adverse impacts.  This process will identify if any further changes need to be made to the lighting.

Parking on the road over-night

Where street lights are turned off, you will need to consider carefully how you park on the road at night to ensure other road users can see your vehicle.  For more information on the legal requirements for parking on the road at night see our web page.

How to comment about part-night lighting

If you wish to comment about a scheme please contact the relevant parish council.  See the contact details for all parish councils in Leicestershire.
Please note that the parish council will only know about a specific scheme in their parish if we have prepared one.  Once we have prepared a scheme then we will contact the parish council and send them the detailed proposals and then attend a parish council meeting to explain the proposals.  A detailed plan of the scheme will then be put onto this web site with the status "out to consultation".
If you wish to check whether your village or town has any proposals please click on the links to your district above.
