Highway Extent Plans

We are unable to fulfil requests to draw the highway boundary on plans sent to us. This is due to avoid the possibility of misinterpretation due to differences in scale and/or the underlying base map.

Our standard plans are produced on A4 or A3 at a scale of approximately 1:1250. We no longer publish plans at a particular scale. This is because they are based on Ordnance Survey MasterMap which displays indicative locations of features only and are not suitable for scaling or measuring from. If the area will not fit within this standard size, we can do areas large enough to fit on A3 at 1:2500. However any areas of land that will not fit on this will incur an extra charge related to the amount of research involved.

Due to limitations of our highway records system, electronically produced plans (PDF format) are of a slightly lower quality than hard copy plans. To see an example of the quality of one of our electronically produced plans, please click on the link below.

Every enquiry that we receive is researched to a level where we are providing you with a plan that is correct according to our best available information at that time. If on receipt of our response you believe there is an inaccuracy with our plan and you can provide us with evidence contrary to what is shown, please let us know and we will be happy to investigate further.

Plans provided often show a wide area, often spanning further than what is relevant to your enquiry. We only have the resource to be able to research the area that is of relevance to a specific enquiry. Therefore, please do not use the same plan for more than one enquiry as we can not guarantee that all areas shown have been researched to a satisfactory level.

To request a plan as part of your enquiry, you will need to submit either a Basic Extent of Highway Enquiry, or a Comprehensive Enquiry if you would like to include additional questions.
